The Raglan Sleeve Jacket Sew Along

The last day making this prototype jacket. I'm excited to be completing this jacket after looking at this fabric in my fabric box for so many years. I loved it when I spotted it in Fabric Land UK - see my Supplies Page - but have never found the time to give it some serious thought. These days I resist buying on impulse. I design first, complete the prototype pattern and only buy enough fabric for the project which I start as soon as the fabric is delivered. I only make one garment at a time and always finish it. Even if things go badly, which I have to say is rare, I never abandon the project. This has always served me well as garments invariably turn out better than expected.

After a little bit of searching I have found the perfect buttons coconut shell, large 38mm with two holes and they are the perfect colour.

In final episode I complete the hem and finish with the buttons and buttonholes.

I’m normally happy with machine sewn buttonholes but this fabric was impossible. Not only is it very thick but it’s also slippery. I’m not great at hand sewing but I have had to resort to it here. See how I get on.

The Raglan Jacket with Storm Collar is finished I am more than happy with the result I can now get on with finalising the pattern. I will be making it up in other fabric. This is a great all year round design.

This pattern may already be available when you view these videos This is a sample make in preparation for the final pattern.

Tomorrow, Day 8, I will take photos.
